A Cast of Cancer Characters-described for kids and parents to understand.

One thing to remember, kids cancers and adult cancers behave differently in some cases - the material here is about children's cancers.

If you or your child have questions about disease diagnoses and treatment be sure and ask the people taking care of you. When you do not understand something they say, ask them to explain it in another way. Health professionals are very human and it's important to them that they explain things to you in a way you can understand.

These characters were created by Mary Schlapkohl's brother, Jim Schlapkohl an art teacher. Mary is a Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse who works every day with kids with cancer. These pages were put together by Jo Eland who worked with kids with cancer and now teaches people how to become nurses at the University of Iowa. Please don't take these pictures for publication as they are copyrighted. Permission will probabily be given to use them but you have to ask us.
